A Drone Program in San Marcos was Introduced
San
Marcos police have introduced a drone program to help with various tasks,
including missing person searches, finding suspects, SWAT calls, and crime
scene reconstruction. The drones have been used to catch car theft suspects, as
seen in Hays County. Officers used a drone to detect heat signatures in the
area, which led to the arrest of two teens. The drones cover more ground in the
air than officers can on foot, saving time and manpower resources. They deploy
drones about once a week, mostly for SWAT callouts. The drone program has been
in place for several years and is expected to grow to include a dedicated drone
team. Currently, nine officers are part-time in the drone program. Read
